|| Desk Report: Leaders of an 11-party political alliance on Monday met Inspector General of Police (IGP) at Police Headquarters in Dhaka and sought cooperation from law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful, orderly and trouble-free long march scheduled for September 5.The meeting began at around 7:00pm and was led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former lawmaker Mia Golam Parwar.According to a press release issued by the alliance, the leaders briefed the IGP on their planned routes and locations for roadside meetings and requested necessary security and administrative assistance.After the meeting, Golam Parwar told journalists that the long march had been announced to press for implementation of what he described as the public mandate expressed through the referendum held on the basis of the July Charter, as well as to raise a number of public concerns.He also cited rising prices of essential commodities and shortages or difficulties involving fertiliser, electricity and gas among the issues behind the programme.“We are with the people,” Golam Parwar said.He said the alliance had formally informed the IGP about plans to organise the long march along four routes across the country and discussed measures to keep the programme safe and peaceful.“Their discussion was open and constructive. We informed them about the routes of the long march and the spots for roadside meetings and requested necessary assistance,” he said.According to Golam Parwar, police authorities assured the delegation of cooperation in maintaining peace during the programme. He expressed hope that the alliance would receive the necessary support from the police administration.The delegation included Naseruddin Patwari, chief coordinator of the National Citizens Party (NCP); Dr AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami and coordinator of the 11-party alliance; Labour Party Chairman Dr Mostafizur Rahman Iran; Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party Senior Naib-e-Ameer Mawlana Abdul Majed Athari; LDP Secretary General Billal Hossain Miaji; Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Mawlana Rafiqul Islam Khan; Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Joint Secretary General Mawlana Ataullah Amin; Jamaat Central Executive Council member Saiful Alam Khan Milon; Dhaka North City Jamaat Ameer Muhammad Selim Uddin; and Bangladesh Development Party General Secretary Nizam-ul Haque Naim, among others.The September 5 programme is expected to draw participants from different parts of the country.
