|| Diplomatic Correspondent: A delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami attended a reception in Dhaka marking Malaysia’s 69th National Day and Malaysia Day 2026, conveying greetings to the Malaysian government and people and expressing hope for stronger bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia.The reception was hosted by Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohammed Suhada Osman at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the capital on Monday evening.The Jamaat delegation was led by the party’s Secretary General and former parliament member Miah Golam Parwar.During the programme, Parwar handed over a message of greetings from Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, addressed to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, to High Commissioner Suhada Osman.In the message, Dr Shafiqur Rahman conveyed his warm greetings and congratulations to the Malaysian government and its people on the occasion of Malaysia’s National Day and Malaysia Day.He also expressed hope that the longstanding friendship, mutual cooperation and fraternal ties between Bangladesh and Malaysia would become stronger and broader in the future.Other members of the Jamaat delegation included Central Executive Council members Matiur Rahman Akand and Mobarak Hossain, and Ali Ahmad Mabroor, a member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee to the Leader of the Opposition.Diplomats from different countries, political figures, senior representatives of the government and private sector, and other invited guests attended the reception.During the event, members of the Jamaat delegation also held courtesy meetings and exchanged views with the Malaysian High Commissioner and diplomats and guests from various countries.Bangladesh and Malaysia have maintained longstanding and multifaceted relations, with strong people-to-people connections between the two countries.Bilateral engagement is particularly significant in areas such as labour migration, trade, investment, education and the movement of skilled and semi-skilled workers. Malaysia has also remained an important destination for Bangladeshi migrant workers, making relations between the two countries an issue of direct interest to many Bangladeshi families.The participation of representatives of Bangladeshi political parties in diplomatic receptions such as the Malaysian National Day event also provides an opportunity for political leaders to maintain contact with foreign diplomats and exchange views on bilateral and regional issues.Against this backdrop, the Jamaat delegation’s participation in the reception and the delivery of a message from its party chief to the Malaysian prime minister marked another instance of political-level engagement surrounding Bangladesh-Malaysia relations.
