Desk Report: Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has strongly condemned the killing of a Chhatra Dal leader in Natore and alleged that an offer of compromise in exchange for money by a Member of Parliament amounts to showing disrespect to the judicial process. In a joint statement issued today, Wednesday, 28 October 2026, Shibir Central President Nurul Islam and Secretary General Shibgatullah made the condemnation and demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the killing.According to the statement, Shakil Islam, Member Secretary of Gurudaspur Municipal Chhatra Dal, was attacked by miscreants on his way home from Chanchkoir Bazar on the night of 14 October. After 12 days of treatment, he died on 26 October at Bangladesh Medical University in the capital. The statement alleged that following his death, police arrested Nuruzzaman Mintu, elder son of BNP MP from Natore-4 constituency Md. Abdul Aziz, for his alleged involvement in the killing. Shibir further alleged that even before the investigation was completed, MP Md. Abdul Aziz went to Shakil's janaza and offered Taka 20 lakh to settle the matter to save the killers.Quoting the statement, the leaders said such a proposal from a Member of Parliament is highly condemnable and an attempt to obstruct fair investigation and justice. They described the politics of compromise in exchange for money after the killing of a leader of their own party as deplorable. The statement also said Shakil had posted on Facebook mentioning that his life was at risk and had filed a General Diary at the police station mentioning the names of those who threatened him. Despite that, the leaders alleged, local police administration did not take effective steps for his security.Referring to a previous incident in Netrokona, the statement claimed that journalist Lutfuzzaman Alif Fakir had also sought shelter at a police station before his killing but did not get cooperation, which, according to Shibir, proves that the law and order situation is not under the government's control. In the statement, the Shibir leaders held BNP, Chhatra Dal and their affiliated organizations responsible for the deterioration of law and order across the country. They alleged that after the political changeover, their activists have been involved in extortion, land grabbing, attacks on dissenting people, murder and rape. They also claimed that more than 200 people have been killed at the hands of BNP and its affiliated organization leaders and activists in internal conflicts after 5 August. The leaders demanded immediate exemplary punishment for Nuruzzaman Mintu and all others involved in the killing. They also urged the government to investigate negligence of duty by local administration officials who allegedly failed to provide security despite knowing about the risk to Shakil's life and to take strict legal action against them.
