Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Cox’s Bazar today on a daylong official tour to attend a series of development, environmental and political programmes, marking his first visit to the district since assuming office.According to Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, the Prime Minister will travel to Cox’s Bazar by air on Saturday and return to Dhaka later in the evening after completing his engagements.During the visit, Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the re-excavation work of the Patli Canal in PMkhali Union under Chakaria Upazila. He will also formally launch the government’s nationwide tree plantation campaign at the Malumghat Reserve Forest, a flagship initiative aimed at planting 250 million trees across the country over the next five years.As part of his itinerary, the Prime Minister will visit Pekua to offer ziarat at the grave of July mass uprising martyr Md Wasim and meet members of the martyr’s family.The premier is also expected to lay the foundation stones of the newly established Pekua Municipality and Matamuhuri Upazila, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening local governance and accelerating regional development.In the afternoon, Tarique Rahman will address a public rally organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at the Chakaria Upazila Bus Terminal, where he is likely to outline the government’s development agenda and future plans for the region.Later in the evening, the Prime Minister will inspect the scenic Marine Drive road and Cox’s Bazar sea beach before attending a civic reception at a local hotel.Officials said the visit combines development initiatives, environmental conservation efforts and public outreach programmes, reflecting the government’s focus on sustainable growth and grassroots engagement.The Prime Minister is expected to return to the capital by air at night after concluding the day’s activities.
