Md Mizanur Rahman, Chapainawabganj: United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent T. Christensen, visited several historical and archaeological sites in Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj on Wednesday, expressing keen interest in the rich heritage of the ancient city of Gauda.During his visit, the Ambassador toured a number of renowned archaeological landmarks associated with the ancient capital and explored the region’s historical significance. He was seen taking photographs of the monuments and seeking information about their cultural and historical background, reflecting his admiration for the area`s unique heritage.As part of the tour, Ambassador Christensen also visited the Sonamasjid Land Port and observed immigration and cross-border trade activities. He later held discussions with members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Sonamasjid Border Outpost (BOP), where he inquired about border management, security measures, and operational activities along the frontier.Among those accompanying the Ambassador were Rajshahi Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mohammad Shahjahan, Commanding Officer of the 59 BGB Mahananda Battalion Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, and Shibganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mazharul Islam.Local residents and officials believe that the Ambassador’s visit will help highlight Chapainawabganj’s historical and archaeological importance on the international stage, potentially drawing greater global attention to the region’s rich cultural legacy and tourism potential.
