Diplomatic Desk: The High Commission for Pakistan in Dhaka hosted the 3rd Mian Sultan Khan
Chess Tournament on Thursday. The event was organized in collaboration with the
Bangladesh Chess Federation to honor Pakistani chess legend Mian Sultan Khan, a
three-time British Chess Champion. Advisor to the Prime Minister of the
People’s Republic of Bangladesh Dr. Mahdi Amin was the chief guest on the
occasion. The event saw an impressive participation of more than 200 chess
players from diverse backgrounds, including diplomats, professionals, national
chess players of Bangladesh, students, and chess enthusiasts, reflecting
Bangladesh’s deep passion for the game.Speaking on the occasion Dr. Mahdi Amin said that sports like cricket and
chess tie both the countries and will bring them together. Appreciating the
efforts of Pakistan High Commission and Bangladesh Chess Federation in
organizing the event, he added that this collaboration between Pakistan and
Bangladesh will continue in future as well.High Commissioner of Pakistan Imran Haider expressed his gratitude to the
Government of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Chess Federation for their support
in organizing the tournament. He extended his sincere thanks to Dr. Mahdi Amin
for sparing his time and attending the event.The High Commissioneraddedthat
itwas through such collaborative, healthy and competitive platforms that we can
actively explore avenues of people-to-people linkages, bonds of friendship and
brotherhood between Pakistan and Bangladesh.Both Dr. Mahdi Amin andthe High
Commissioner congratulated the winner and top performers of the tournament. The
High Commissioner also thanked the diplomats, grandmasters, international
masters, officials of the Bangladesh Chess Federation, media representatives,
and other participants for their presence and contribution to the success of
the event.At the end, Dr. Mahdi Aminand the High Commissioner distributed
certificates, medals, prize money and trophies among the winners and position
holders of the tournament.
