Court orders preservation of all election records for Dhaka‑6, Dhaka‑7 and Gaibandha‑4 amid rigging claims

MM Rahmatullah: The Election Tribunal, on Thursday, 26 February 2026, acting on a petition from Bangladesh Jamaat‑e‑Islami, directed the Election Commission to safeguard every ballot paper, result sheet and related document from the three constituencies—Dhaka‑6, Dhaka‑7 and Gaibandha‑4—where allegations of result manipulation and irregularities have been raised.

The tribunal, formed on 19 February under Section 49 of the Representation of the People Ordinance, will hear the case before a single‑judge bench led by Justice Md. Zakir Hossain.

Jamaat’s candidate for Dhaka‑6, Dr. Abdul Mannan, first demanded a halt to the result announcement on 12 February, and the party later called for a nationwide suspension of results in 30 seats. The Election Commission, however, released results for 297 of 299 constituencies, withholding gazette notifications for two seats pending the High Court’s directive.
