Calls for More Cantonments and Army Camps to Strengthen Security in the Hill TractsOnline Desk: The Bangladesh Justice Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the reported armed attack on members of the Bangladesh Army in the Sajek area and called for the establishment of additional army cantonments and camps in strategically important locations across the Chittagong Hill Tracts to strengthen regional security, combat terrorism, and protect the lives and property of local residents.In a joint statement, Dr. Syed Zaved Mohammad Salehuddin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Justice Party, and Onok Ali Hossain Shahedi, Secretary-General of the party, said:“Any armed attack against the Bangladesh Armed Forces, who are entrusted with safeguarding the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security, is deeply alarming and strongly condemnable. Such acts of violence and terrorism cannot be tolerated. We strongly condemn this incident and demand that those responsible be identified and brought to justice in accordance with the law.”The party leaders emphasized that ensuring peace, stability, and security in the Chittagong Hill Tracts is a fundamental responsibility of the state. They stated that effective and sustainable security measures are essential to prevent armed violence, curb the proliferation of illegal weapons, and protect security personnel and civilians from attacks.Considering the geographical characteristics, prevailing security risks, and local circumstances, the leaders called upon the government to establish additional army cantonments and camps in strategically important areas where necessary. They stressed that strengthening the security infrastructure would help prevent terrorist activities, safeguard national interests, and reinforce public confidence in the state's ability to maintain law and order.The joint statement further emphasized that the safety, fundamental rights, and peaceful coexistence of all communities living in the hill districts, including Bengali residents and ethnic minority communities, must be protected. While taking firm action against terrorism and armed violence, the authorities must also ensure that innocent civilians are not subjected to harassment, discrimination, or unnecessary hardship.The party leaders expressed their profound respect for the Bangladesh Army and all other security forces for their professionalism, courage, and sacrifices in defending the country's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
