Humaiun Kobir to Lead Bangladesh Delegation at CHOGM as Acting Foreign Minister

He will receive the status and protocol of a full Cabinet minister at the Commonwealth summit in Antigua and Barbuda

Diplomatic Correspondent: State Minister Humaiun Kobir will lead Bangladesh’s delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM 2026) in Antigua and Barbuda from November 1 to 4, serving as acting foreign minister during the international summit.

The Cabinet Division confirmed the decision in a notification issued on October 25 and signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani. According to the notification, Kobir will receive the status, honour and protocol accorded to a full Cabinet minister during the conference.

The appointment places the state minister at the head of Bangladesh’s delegation to one of the Commonwealth’s major high-level diplomatic gatherings, where leaders and representatives of member countries meet to discuss shared challenges and strengthen cooperation.

The four-day summit in the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda will provide an opportunity for Bangladesh to engage with fellow Commonwealth members on issues of mutual interest. Such gatherings traditionally serve as platforms for political dialogue, economic cooperation, sustainable development and coordination on global challenges.

Kobir’s leadership of the delegation will also represent Bangladesh’s participation in discussions among Commonwealth countries at a time when international cooperation remains important for addressing economic pressures, climate-related challenges and broader development priorities.

The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of independent countries, many of which have historical ties to Britain. Its members cooperate on areas including democracy, governance, education, trade, climate action and sustainable development.

Bangladesh is an active member of the Commonwealth and has used the organisation’s platforms to advance its diplomatic engagement and development interests.

The Cabinet Division’s notification establishes the ministerial status and protocol arrangements for Kobir’s participation in CHOGM 2026.
