Two held in Tongi with 10,500 yaba pills, Tk 58 lakh

Syed Atik: Law enforcement agencies have arrested two alleged drug traffickers and recovered 10,500 yaba tablets along with Tk 5.8 million in cash during a raid in Tongi, Gazipur.

The arrested individuals were identified as Anwar and Shawon. A case under the Narcotics Control Act is currently being processed against them, according to sources concerned.

Officials said the operation was conducted on the basis of confidential information at the ground floor of a multi-storey building on Muktarbari Road in the Tongi College Gate area. During the raid, the two suspects were detained and a subsequent search led to the recovery of 10,500 yaba tablets and Tk 5.8 million in cash.

Speaking about the operation, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Mohammad Belayet Hossain said the suspects were arrested following a tip-off.

“We have launched a detailed investigation to determine the source of the narcotics and identify others involved in the network. We expect the investigation to reveal the masterminds behind this drug trafficking operation,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the syndicate's activities.
