Pakistan hosts Bangladeshi cultural delegation, promoting people-to-people ties

Desk Report: The Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka has hosted senior officials of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Cultural Affairs and members of a Bangladeshi cultural delegation that recently visited Pakistan, highlighting the role of cultural exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The reception was held at Pakistan House following the delegation’s visit to Pakistan from October 16 to 19 under the bilateral cultural exchange programme, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan High Commission on Thursday.

The 15-member delegation comprised prominent artists, vocalists and dance performers representing Bangladesh’s diverse cultural traditions.

The delegation included acclaimed painter and printmaker Md. Abdus Sattar; vocalists Piyal Hasan, Isha Khan, Ethun Babu, Mohammad Jamal Uddin Naser and Naznin Chowdhury; and dance artists Farhana Chowdhury, Mehbooba Mahnoor Chandni, Abdur Rashid Swapan and Golam Mostafa.

During their stay in Islamabad, the Bangladeshi artists presented performances showcasing the country’s rich artistic heritage, music and dance. Their performances received widespread appreciation from audiences, reflecting the potential of cultural diplomacy to bring people of the two countries closer.

The reception at Pakistan House provided an opportunity to acknowledge the artists’ contributions and recognise the importance of continued cultural engagement between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Cultural exchanges are an important avenue for strengthening people-to-people connections, building mutual understanding and creating opportunities for cooperation beyond conventional diplomatic and economic engagements. Through music, dance, visual arts and other creative expressions, artists can share their national heritage and foster greater appreciation of one another’s traditions.

The recent visit also underscores the scope for expanding cultural cooperation between the two countries through reciprocal visits, joint performances, artistic exhibitions and exchanges involving cultural institutions and young artists.

As Bangladesh and Pakistan continue to engage through diplomatic and other bilateral channels, sustained cultural initiatives could help broaden public contact and encourage closer links between their creative communities.

The participation of established Bangladeshi artists in the programme highlighted the country's cultural diversity on an international platform, while the positive audience response in Islamabad offered encouragement for further exchanges.

The Pakistan High Commission’s hosting of the delegation members and cultural affairs officials reflects continued engagement in the cultural sphere, which can complement broader efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.

Regular exchanges of artists and cultural professionals could help both countries develop a deeper understanding of their respective societies and create new avenues for collaboration in the arts and heritage sectors.
