Later, during a tree-planting event at the Phulpur–Sherpur Road intersection, Mymensingh-2 Member of Parliament Mufti Muhammadullah joined the program and planted a Krishnachura (Royal Poinciana) sapling.

It was learned that one of the key election pledges of the BNP during the recently concluded 13th National Parliamentary Election was to plant 250 million trees nationwide within five years if elected to power.

To promote environmental conservation and address the adverse impacts of climate change, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will implement this large-scale plantation initiative over the next five years. In the first phase, 15 million saplings will be planted in 149 upazilas across 49 districts of the country.
