Zakir Hossin, Pirojpur: A tree plantation programme was launched in
Pirojpur on Saturday as part of the government's nationwide initiative to plant
250 million trees over the next five years, in line with the Prime Minister's
election manifesto.
The programme was inaugurated by Deputy
Commissioner Abu Sayeed at the Deputy Commissioner's Office premises.
Among others present were District Council
Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner
(General) Alauddin Bhuiyan Jony, Additional District Magistrate Tanzila Kabir
Tropa, Joint Director of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) Md Mizanur
Rahman, and Acting Divisional Forest Officer Sheikh Yakub Ali.
Speaking at the inauguration, the deputy
commissioner said the nationwide campaign was launched in Cox's Bazar and is
now being implemented across the country, including Pirojpur.
He said forest, fruit-bearing and medicinal tree
saplings would be planted at different locations across the district to promote
environmental conservation, enhance biodiversity and expand green cover.
As part of the programme, more than 100 saplings
of forest, fruit-bearing and medicinal tree species were planted in and around
the Deputy Commissioner's Office premises.
The district administration said the campaign is
expected to encourage greater public participation in afforestation efforts and
contribute to sustainable environmental protection.
