Seized fuel sold to farms, proceeds deposited to govt treasury

Md. Tanju Ahmed, Raipur (Lakshmipur):

In Raipur Upazila of Lakshmipur, the upazila administration has sold seized fuel oil to farmers at the government-fixed rate. The initiative, carried out on Saturday (April 25, 2026), aims to reduce farmers’ production costs while ensuring an increase in government revenue.

According to the upazila administration, fuel oil seized on charges of illegal stockpiling and sale was not destroyed. Instead, it was decided to sell the oil to farmers for agricultural use. As a result, farmers are getting necessary fuel at a low cost, while the proceeds from the sales are being deposited into the government treasury

Present at the event were Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mehedi Hasan Kawsar, Upazila Agriculture Officer Mazedul Islam, Upazila Rural Development Officer A. Sattar, Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahin Mia, and Upazila BNP General Secretary Shafiq Bhuiyan, along with local representatives and farmers from various unions.

“The upazila administration is always working to protect the interests of farmers,” said UNO Mehedi Hasan Kawsar. “By ensuring proper management and delivering the seized oil to farmers, they are being benefited.”

Several farmers in the upazila said that the high market price of fuel oil had increased their irrigation costs. They expressed relief over the administration’s initiative.

The upazila administration confirmed that all proceeds from the fuel sales under this program are being deposited into the government treasury.
