As part of the government’s “Nationwide Canal and Reservoir Excavation and Re-excavation” program, canal excavation activities were inaugurated in Raipur Upazila of Lakshmipur.
The program was formally launched on Saturday (April 25) at 4:00 PM at the BP-8, BP-17, and P-2 canals in Charbanshi Union No. 2 of the upazila. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mehedi Hasan Kawsar inaugurated the work by manually digging with a spade.
Also present at the event were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nigar Sultana, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mohammad Abdul Hai Khan, Upazila BNP President ZM Nazmul Islam Mithu, General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mia, Upazila Agriculture Officer Mazedul Islam, and Upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Shahriar Faisal, along with local representatives and distinguished persons.
Former Chairman of Charbanshi Union Mostafa Gazi, Union BNP President Faruk Kabiraj, leaders from various levels, and local residents were also present.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the speakers said that re-excavating the canals will improve drainage systems, reduce waterlogging, and increase agricultural production. They expressed hope that this initiative will play a positive role for local farmers and the general public.
