BDT 1 Lakh Fine for Illegal Ice Cream Factory in Pirojpur; Huge Stock Destroyed

Zakir Hossain: A mobile court has fined ‘Rony Ice Cream Factory’ BDT 100,000 for producing ice cream using harmful chemicals in an unhygienic environment in Ranipur area of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila.

The drive was conducted on Saturday (April 25) under the leadership of Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) S M Al Amin.

Based on a tip-off, the mobile court raided the Rony Ice Cream Factory in Ranipur. During the raid, it was found that the factory was marketing products using a logo on ice cream packaging without any approval from BSTI. In addition, ice cream was being produced by mixing chemicals highly harmful to human health in an extremely unhygienic environment.

Under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, the factory’s representative Mohammad Rakib (22), son of Rustam Ali Mollah, was found guilty and fined BDT 100,000. In default, he was sentenced to two months of simple imprisonment. However, as the convict paid the fine immediately, he did not have to serve the jail term.

During the operation, a huge quantity of unhygienic and toxic chemical-laden ice cream stored in the factory was destroyed in public.

Sanitary Inspector of Pirojpur Municipality Md. Ruhul Amin Sardar filed the prosecution during the drive.

The Assistant Commissioner (Land) said that such drives by the Pirojpur District Administration will continue regularly to protect public health. No unscrupulous trader will be allowed to play with the lives of ordinary people.
