Awami League Won’t Return to Politics: Shah Alam

Ruhul Amin, Bogra: State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shah Alam, MP, has warned of possible conspiracies surrounding June 23, alleging that elements linked to the ousted Awami League may attempt to regain political relevance through misinformation campaigns on social media.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of outpatient and inpatient services at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Children’s Hospital in Bogura on Thursday, the minister said, “The autocratic Awami League will not be allowed to return to Bangladesh’s political arena.” He urged citizens to remain vigilant against efforts aimed at misleading the public and diverting attention through coordinated propaganda.

Mir Shah Alam expressed concern that the upcoming founding anniversary of the Awami League on June 23 could be used as an occasion to spread confusion and misinformation online. According to him, certain groups are actively engaged in campaigns intended to rehabilitate what he described as an authoritarian political force. He called for unity and awareness to counter such attempts.

The minister further alleged that Bogura had suffered from political discrimination and developmental neglect over the past 17 years. He claimed that as the current government has begun advancing development initiatives in the district, a vested quarter has become involved in various conspiratorial activities. However, he asserted that no such efforts would be able to obstruct the district’s development trajectory.

Highlighting the government’s healthcare plans, Mir Shah Alam announced that the proposed six-storey building of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Children’s Hospital would be upgraded to an eight-storey facility. He also revealed plans to acquire a nearby multi-storey building and integrate it into the hospital complex to expand medical services and improve healthcare delivery.

The function was presided over by Bogura-6 MP and President of the District BNP, Rezaul Karim Badsha. Health Services Secretary Kamruzzaman Chowdhury attended as the inaugurator. Special guests included Bogura-4 MP and District BNP General Secretary Mosharraf Hossain, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser AKM Mahbubur Rahman, Bogura City Corporation Administrator M. R. Islam Swadhin, and Bogura District Council Administrator Ahsanul Tayeb Zakir, among others.

The event was organized to mark the birth anniversary of renowned cardiologist Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Organizers said that free cardiac consultation services were provided to the public throughout the day. A discussion meeting was also held to raise awareness about heart disease prevention and promote public health education.
